Ingredients:
Black peas – 1 cup
Onion – 2
Grated fresh coconut – ½ cup
Malavani masala/ red
chilly powder – 2 teaspoon
Garam masala – ½ teaspoon
Turmeric powder – ¼ teaspoon
Garlic – 4
Ginger – ½ inch
Oil – 2 tablespoon
Curry leaves – 5-6
Salt
Recipe:
- Rinse and soak black peas for 4-5 hours.
- Pressure cook black peas for 3 whistles and keep it aside.
- Heat 2 teaspoon oil in a pan
- Add 1 sliced onion , chopped garlic and ginger.
- Saute till onion is translucent.
- Add coconut and roast till the coconut is golden brown in color.
- Take care not to burn coconut.
- Keep it aside and let it cool down.
- Add this to blender and make a smooth paste.
- In another pan heat 2 tablespoon oil.
- Add 1 finely chopped onion and curry leaves.
- Once onion is translucent add malavani masala, garam masala and turmeric powder.
- Saute till oil starts to separate.
- Now add black peas with stock, coconut paste and salt.
- Mix everything well and cook on medium flame for 10 -15 minutes.
- Serve hot with steamed rice, bhakri or with malavani wade.
